The first competition maps human sensory reactions in a volatile world navigating between past and present. From speculative encounters between historical figures, the physicality of fear, the pendulum between forces of nature, imagination and empathy, to the dynamics of a young couple at dawn, the Land of the Unmarked program explores the shifting connections between the imaginary and the real, between nature, people and history.
* Free entry, based on prior registration, for the September 7 screening at Amfiteatru Teatrul Masca.

D: Welket Bungué
Angular Phoenix proposes a speculative meeting between the Baron of Água Izé, the first nobleman in the Portuguese colonies of the 1800s who was of mixed European and African ancestry, and Maria Correia, the Black Princess of Príncipe Island in the 1700s. Reanimating them through the bodies of contemporary artists, the film uses dance, poetry and music to weave profound threads between the past and the present.

D: Chantal Caron
C: Chantal Caron
Somber Tides is a cry from the species, startled into survival against the elements. One last breath before being trampled by the Earth or maybe conversely a battle to wage against winds and tides clutching on before extinction.
BLUE FUNK

D: Louise Coetzer
Blue Funk charts the physicality of being afraid. As a chain reaction, fear settles over its targets, exposing their innate sentient responses of freeze, fight, fawn, and flight. The resulting cacophony evokes the volatility of this moment in time, a mounting pressure edging towards its breaking point.

IN OUR HANDS
4:40, 2023, CZ
D: Kristián Mensa
The body is an endless source of inspiration, reflecting stories, metaphors, and connections with the external landscape. As humans, we possess the power to create, reproduce, and thrive, yet we also bear the capacity to witness the devastating ruin of our planet. The direction we choose to steer the flora, fauna, and ourselves rests solely in our hands. Will it be a path towards destruction or a beacon of hope for a better world?
LUCID DREAMING
13:03, 2023, NL
D: Emma Evelein
C: Emma Evelein
Lucid Dreaming tells the story of a girl in a train, who loses herself in the world of a man sitting across from her. As she gets carried away in his world, the train and its passengers become part of the experience she encounters through him. As a non-verbal meeting between two strangers is established, she experiences how imagination and empathy are powerful and vulnerable at the same time.
